Can-eh? Can-Artistry

Why do people hang dreamcatchers in their cars? Do they sleep in their cars?

I have a lovely dreamcatcher, and it is exactly where it is supposed to be--hanging from the ceiling over my bed. My parents bought it for me on a trip out west. They didn't really know what it was or what it meant, but they thought I would like it. I love it more for that than for its actual design. It was an acceptance that I am not exactly following the path that they thought I would, but that my path is valid too.

Which brings me to another question--what is the best gift you ever received, and why?

ohh now that's interesting. I am not overly much on gifts, most often the gifts I love best are hand made or chocolate. I am very easy to please.

Tho not really a gift, I think my internet connection/computer would rank high up there. The resources, the friendships, the art inspiration from others around the world has been an incredible experience. I still can't get used to the idea and I hope I never do, that I can email and share with someone in Australia and be sitting here in my pj's at 4:00 am. I often will have a silly grin on my face the whole time.

There are other "gift" things too but off the top of my head this seems to be what comes first.

((((hugs))))

Well, best gift in recent memory...was a small (smaller than a shoe box)box of paper scraps, a bit of designer paper, a few buttons, a bit of ribbon, a couple of embellishments, several tiny hidy pocket things, old photos, German dictionary pages, etc. that our Kim (aka imagesbykim) gave me one winter day before last Christmas while I was at my boring desk job...and I immediately recognised the potential joy-in-a-box that was in my hand....and was almost moved to tears...it was such a generous gift from her heart. I've been playing with that box of stuff (and plenty more that she has helped me collect since then) every day since....and loving every moment of it.
(wow what a great question).

My/our best gift was a wedding gift this summer. A man from our church hand carved us a bench with a storage seat. I helped him find craft shows last fall, so he made us an elaborate gift. The amount of work he put into it is amazing, and we barely know him! And it's also great as we are finishing building a new porch, so it'll be great in there for the kids to store mitts and sit on to put on boots ect. Very thoughtful and heart warming.

I would have to say that my most treasured gift is a 'hug' from a little girl I worked with on several occasions. She traced her hands on construction paper, cut them out and added this gigantic string to the hands and the note attached said 'A hug for you when you are sad because you teach me I'm not so bad'
Even just typing it now brings tears back ;)
