Can-eh? Can-Artistry

Okay this is something that is annoying me.

I belong to many different selling venues. So when I create products and photograph them, I automatically use a batch thumb creator to resize my images for internet viewing.

Most sizes are generic to accomodate all selling venues.

Then there is Icraft.
What's up with the size: 694 x 860? or minimum 500 wide?

So now, I have to go back and resize my images to fit on Icraft, not only that, if my image exceeds the 860 and is still not minimum 500 wide I must go and rebuild a base and then size my image to fit on the base.

That's UGLY and that also makes a very ugly unhappy Kim as she is trying to get her listings done....

The fact that you are now dead stop stuck in the middle of creating a product listing because you must go and resize an image is very painful.

You either leave the listing and start again with the right size image or try not to lose all the info you just posted as you open another program to fix the image.

What do you do when someone (a member) doesn't have a clue how to fix this problem? Not everyone is computer savvy to know how to do this.

I suppose if you only belong to one site it makes sense to re size all of your images to fit Icraft requirements, and that would be a perfect situation for Icraft however, not so.... as many of us belong to several selling sites.

My suggestion would be to relax on the minimum size and concentrate only on maximum. Then allow for edit if the images are too small at "members" discretion.

Oh and another suggestion, if someone is listing products, couldn't the product quantity automatically be 1? LOL

Thanks for your ear and eyes, Let me know if you would rather I take this to the message boards on Icraft.

Hi Kim,

The only requirement for product images that we have is that they have to be at least 500 px wide.

This has been done so that the potential buyers would get a consistent user experience viewing various products on the site. We also wanted them to see products in a greater detail.

Before we’ve implemented this restriction, some product images were submitted as very small thumbnails. So the decision was made to introduce certain standards that everyone would follow.

There is no maximum image width enforcement. We mention that product images look their best if you submit images which are 860 x 694 px in dimension, but that’s not a requirement. If you submit images that are wider than 860 px, we will then resize them for their use on various pages.

However, for those who need help with images, we offer our help to resize them. At least, the first time around before you learn how to do it yourself.

As for the “Default Quantity” value.... Well, since we allow you to post products that are available only as custom orders, we don’t make the decision on product quantity for you. Technically, you can post a product that is not available as of now, but that you could reproduce on demand as a custom order. In this case you need to choose under “Availability/Quantity” field this value “Sold. Now accepting Custom Orders.”
Hope this helps.

Thanks!

Hi Lisa,

So you are saying that the only requirement for images is that it NOT be less than 500 pxls wide?
If that is the case, then I can upload an image 1200 x 1700 and you will accept and resize it? Then again why would you show these sizes of 860 x 694 after the fact of not meeting the basic minimum? I didn't bother to test to see if you would take any size. The red size requirement is so in your face that it seems like you will not take anything over. So there I was (and still am) resizing my images to be with in the 860 x 694.

I'll see if it works shortly.

As for the quantity.....
Sorry but as an artist that is not fond of recreating the same item more than once,
I would bet my next Tim Horton's Maple Glaze donut, that the most common number going into that box is 1. It is very easy to overook because it doesn't have a number as the default. It has something else (and now I can't remember) must go check. I don't think I am the only one rolling my eyes on that one.

Anyway, just my nit picking, I'll probably get used to it the more I do them.
